Most the boxes come with one or two camera licenses for their Surveillance Station Software and after that you have to buy licenses which aren't cheap. I have three cameras on my DS1512+ but only had to buy one extra license @ about $50. You can setup an FTP and use it that way too but then you rely on the camera's software. I found Synology's SS is better.
Also, make sure to segregate the hard drive used for the recordings from your other data. I killed 3 of 5 3TB drives before I realized that it was the constant writing / re-writing of the camera video that was killing them. Upgraded to 4TB drives but use one of the remaining 3TB drives for the cameras.
