I have the 48mm version and it is amazing. I'm not sure if it is water resistant but I've gotten it wet a couple times and it has not been malfunctioning. The watch is great even though it is not the newest version.
Although I am not an Apple person/fan, if you have a iPhone and want a smart watch, this is a great option. It will offer far better integration than a FItbit or other 3rd party watch can. It all comes down to what you want to use it for.
This is such a great deal for one of the top smartwatches on the market (despite it being an older model). It offers great integration with iOS devices.
The one thing that puts me off the Series 1 is the poor brightness of the display compared to the Series 3 - 450 nits vs 1000 nits. Living in Southern Arizona where the sun shines over 300 days a year the 450 nits display is more than often impossible to read out of the shade.
I owned a Series 1, and the battery "expanded" (in other words exploded). This caused the face of the Apple Watch to unseal and actually blow 3/4th of the way off. Only one side was still attached. I have owned a lot of watches, but I have never had one blow the face off before. Of course, Apple replaced the watch even though it was slightly out of the 1 year warranty. It was clear that they knew about the issue, and they were honoring replacements. I must admit that Apple does a good job at customer service even when quality issues like this happen.
