Thanks @rampire, this might have been a buy for me if it had the Exynos, I know it's an older model but still am upgrade from what I have currently. U have a hard time parting with $1k+ for limited improvements over what I have.
As a long-time motorola user (Moto X, then G5, then Moto Z2), I finally made the switch to Samsung via this phone with a similar-priced deal during Prime day. So far I've been quite impressed with the security updates, camera, build quality, and nice extra software features (my favorites are weak-charging detection and adjustable screen resolution for enhanced battery life).
The main drawback for me is the edge display, which makes the phone awkward to hold without accidentally touching the screen.
Fingerprint reader on the 8 and the 9 both sůčk. Samsung does a terrible job with ergonomics and fingerprint reader accuracy lately. Shame, they used to be great... MSGA.... Make Samsung Great Again.
