I would absolutely NOT trust something like this to be connected to my network. I don't want some Chinese guy in Guangdong turning up my AC while I'm at work and send my electric bill skyrocketing to the moon. Besides, the reviews on are somewhat mixed with regards to this staying connected to people's wifi networks.
Well... You can't complain both about the thing being accessible from the outside AND not staying connected to the network ;-) However... while I agree with the sentiment I'd like to point out that going with big names is no guarantee that your privacy won't be invaded (see the recent kerfuffle with Ring doorbells sharing your videos with law enforcement via a portal without any warrant or authorization on your part). It's only going to buy you better quality software and (probably) timely updates.
