Can these drives be pulled out & moved to a PC if the chassis (box) itself fails? Previous experience from two other older units was - if the box or a piece of it fails, you cannot do that because the drive has a local encryption card in it, which means it cannot be moved if it fails. Hence you lose all your data unless you send the drive to a lab to have the patters copied to another drive. Big expense.
Ummm I moved all of my 8TB drives to my NAS...all 5 of them. So unless something has drastically changed, I have no idea what you are talking about with encryption cards.
I even use the external cases for other manufacturer/size hard drives and they work.
That was in July of 2017 when I bought mine and they had 8TB RED drives in them.
