Good/VG benchmark but high Max TDP: 185 W. Consider a used GTS 1060 - better TDP and better bench.

The RX580 and 1060 are pretty much neck-to-neck in real-world performance (I have several of both), with the winner depending on the specific game/application. Both will give you maxed out 1080p gaming, and enough horsepower for first-gen VR (i.e., not the Vive Pro). Higher max power consumption than the 1060, but also 2 extra GB of VRAM, and the actual TDP during usage isn't terrible in my experience (even on the RX480, which this is a refresh of).

This is a solid card, and the price is excellent (I saw an RX570 going at the same price just a few days ago). If you want a clear step up, the closest you can get is the new RX590, which retails for $280, then the next step up from Nvidia after that, but that's going into 2x the price of this card territory.

NOTE: I would definitely never get a used one of either model, since they are along the most popular crypto-mining cards, so any used ones you find have a high chance of being at the end of their life-span. This is coming from someone who has a mining rig, and lots of friends who sell their near-dead cards used (Something I do not, because it's evil and I don't want to hate myself).

This being a standard RX580 AIB and straight up 20% from it's MSRP (*No Rebate*) what's not to love.

As to power looking at PSU Calculator a 2600X in a fairly normal outfitted mainstream build, energy cost of .12 kWh (avg US) gaming 4hr/day. The GTX 1060 6Gb is $6.52 a month, using the RX 580 8Gb it's 7.55, with a Gold PSU... IF you're worrying about saving energy that's the one thing you have to start with.

So a $1.03 a month difference or $12.36 in a year. If the best price on a single fan 1060 6Gb is $200 that first year of savings is already in your wallet. AND that's IF you're gaming 4 Hours (1/6th of everyday) religiously!  I'd be worrying about other things...
