EXACTLY. I have a small Pelonis NT20-12D ceramic heater that I purchased at about 3 years ago for $15. It has a working dial thermostat and it will HEAT UP A ROOM!
I always run it on the high setting (1500W) and I'm sure that it really consumes electricity. However, I oftentimes don't care about that...just gimme some heat.
I have used "fan-forced" space heaters before and, for whatever reason, they don't seem to put out the same amount of heat as a ceramic heaters over the same period of time (at the same wattage). Therefore, I think that ceramic space heaters are more efficient for the same amount of electricity used. This means that you could turn down a ceramic heater a notch or two and get the same amount of heat as a fan-forced heater while using less electricity.
Finally, the little Pelonis NT20-12D models really blow the hot air out of the unit on the high setting. From about 3 feet away, on the high setting, it feels like a blast furnace. The length of the heater's power cord is about 6 feet so that's convenient, too.
Overall, for $15, I absolutely love the little Pelonis ceramic heaters (I have two of 'em).
