Reservations start at 10AM PT.* Valve has announced that its new Nintendo Switch-like Steam Deck Portable Gaming Console will be available for pre-order today. The official release date is in December. *A pre-existing account and $5 deposit (toward purchase) will be required.

The 64GB model is $399, the 256GB model is $529, and the 512GB model is $649.

This AMD Zen 2 + RDNA 2 powered handheld will have a 1280 x 800 7" display and 2 to 8 hours of battery life. The dock to connect it to TVs will be sold separately.

Is the $5 to try to keep scalpers away? Seems too low of a reservation fee to do anything meaningful.

I heard there handheld gaming computers. They did what Nintendo didn't: upgrade the handheld device game.

This is a great product if it came out ten years ago. As it stands now, this doesn't compete with cloud gaming. Xbox already has a library that competes well and works on all mobile devices. Why carry this and your phone of the same size if you can just carry your phone?
