You can use a plastic bristled push broom if it has the finer bristles more like synthetic horse hair (paintbrush density). I've been doing it for several years on a vehicle without ill effects, though it helps to not only protect the paint but also remove ice, if you keep it waxed, but then you ideally don't want to use the same brush for paint as for windows to keep the wax off the windows. If you instead skip the wax and use a thinner polymer sealant you'll have less problems with the gl*** streaking from using same broom on both paint and gl***, but also less paint protection.
You do have to reserve the broom for only cleaning the vehicle off, or meticulously wash it before use, as those fine hair brooms readily hold floor dust/dirt in their bristles. I use the same broom for washing the top of an SUV.
Yah, we find the ubiquitous brush + hand scraper packages available at the warehouse clubs to get the job done with less risk of paint damage. Comfortable to use in cold weather with multiple foam handle-points. Admittedly, those products tend to be $2-4 more.
They do have to be treated with care or they all, including this one, snap at the pole to snow puller joint.
Oddly, we’ve found the cheaper ones sold by BJs to be more durable vs the Costco and Sam’s alternatives.
Been using these for years, but always found the telescoping pole problematic. If you don’t need the extra reach, swap it out for an inexpensive wooden mop handle. You can use more force without worrying about a pole collapsing, and the wood will never scratch your paint if you accidentally hit the car.
