If you are wondering why anyone would choose a TV this size instead of using a projector, the answer is that ultimately a TV will produce better contrast because the light comes directly from the screen rather than it being a reflection of light from the projector.
If you have a controlled home theater environment (light and sound), that's when you should consider a projector setup.
I've never wonder this at all actually. But it's an interesting point! To me, and probably most people below upper class, it's only logical and just more practical to have an actual TV in the family or living room than a more complex AV setup as you described above. I'd love a home theater in a dedicated home theater room... That's above my wife's tolerance for my spending π
