I have this thermometer. It seems to work fine, and you can't beat the price. It comes with batteries for both parts, but they're no-name and I suppose they won't last as long as Duracells.
The one thing I've noticed on this type of probe thermometer is that they *really* don't like to have the probes submersed in liquid. After that, they may or may not ever work again - they tend to fail always reporting the maximum temperature. The probe on this unit is replaceable, but I doubt it would be cost effective compared to just buying a new unit.
I've had a couple of these. Break easily and often, screen somewhere hate to read. Okay for experimenting whether you're interested, but ultimately it's worth spending a bit more. Meat is expensive after all.
