I have a 5.1 Onkyo from the 90's and it still works to this day! I'm sure quality has gone downhill since then though, just like everything else these days.

I've heard similar comments about Onkyo quality dropping considerably.

Onkyo receivers always get the same bad rep thanks to the same group of people still not having given up their grudge over the generation of early-201X receivers that had bad HDMI boards that would die right outside of warranty - it's been almost 10 years, the parts have completely changed, but people seem to have endless energy to harp on those issues as reasons why their receivers are apparently terrible *today*.

I have two Onkyo receivers from one of the models most affected by the bad HDMI boards (the TX-NR616), and they've both been running great for 6-7 years now, because they switched the boards mid-production-run, so unless someone can give an actual reason newer than that as too why current-crop Onkyo receivers are apparently so terrible, I'd say stop harping on the past - I haven't heard a single proper reason or justification from anyone crusading against their receivers as to why their last (several) generations are apparently so terrible, just the usual ****-talking.

The fact that Onkyo never made good on screwing their customers is a good reason to spread to the word.....Maybe if you spent upwards of $1500 of 3 receivers and were told by Onkyo "oh well" when you complained about the quality that was a known issue......you would feel differently...
