Make sure you put the right lid with the right blade. The lid with center feed is for the plastic blades with internal basker. The lid with the side feed uses the metal blades with food going outside into a bowl. Majority of negative reviews is that they mix up the two and if you do that you will shred the lid into the food. Since there are two lids and two separate processing containers once you attached the right lid to the right container you can never make a mistake. Also dont force the food when cutting. That puts pressure on blade and motor. It works faster when you let the blade do the work
