It's been code to have GFCI in bathrooms already, at least for the last 20+ years... which makes it kind of funny that most hairdryers still come with their own GFCI built into the plug.

Because hairdryers are highly portable and not always used in a bathroom. Hence the built-in GFCI. Wet lives matter!
