Thing is, you don't have to spend that much. Just go to the store and heft each package. Some blankets are just naturally a lot heavier than others. I got mine for $20, same as every other blanket on the shelf with it. It's about 10 lbs and not super warm, so I can use it in summer too.
These are heavy but not warm at all. You'll end up having to use things on top if you are used to warmer bed settings. Mine is stored after using only twice since the older pup likes to sleep under the covers and this would make it dangerous.
