They seem very careful to call these "booster" cables rather than jumper cables. Also of the many sites I checked, no one was admitting what the cables were made of, only that the jaws were copper plated.
After all that, I bought a pair anyway. Even if I only get one use from them it was worth it.

8 gauge is pretty thin, but 12 feet is pretty short, so they stand some chance of working. But if the dead engine doesn't crank right over when you hook 'em up, be as patient as possible (3 whole minutes between attempts!) for charge to transfer.

They're almost certainly copper-clad aluminum at this price, and frankly that's fine. CCA falls apart in high-flex environments and has lots of other downsides, but for cables you only use a few times a year, it's probably not an issue.

Junk ^just say it. Even 4 ga. is too small. **** that is undependable is no bargain; it just leads to relying on something that U should not.

Correct! Might work for a motorcycle or Smart Car, but no way will these provide enough energy transfer to start a V-8.
