My dad and myself both have this device. My dad's device seems to spontaneously reboot whenever it feels like. There is very little free memory available and apps tend to spontaneously close as a result. It's a pretty poor experience to say the least.
My device does not spontaneously reboot (so far). I immediately factory reset mine when I got it, then proceeded to disable every Google app and other bloat possible to get memory freed up. Freshly booted, I have 450MB free out of 0.89GB according to Task Manager. Not great, but usable.
I seem to be stuck on firmware build NKS.01.45.00.04 (2015-11-01) despite there being newer updates mentioned on Sprint's Slate 8 support site. I'm not rooted or anything. Manually trying to get an update, the device always claims there are no updates available as if I'm already on the latest (I'm not).
The touch sense on this tablet is very frustrating. Picks up unintended clicks and fails to pick up intended clicks/swipes unless pressing hard, compared to my LG tablets/phones. Having an external Logitech Bluetooth mouse makes this tablet much better.
The internal power supply for this tablet seems a bit marginal. They also must've forgotten to put pull up/down resistors on the MicroSD card I/O pins because USB OTG connectivity crashed every time when I had the screen on full brightness and had no SD card installed. With SD card installed, I can go brighter without USB OTG failing (unless I turn on WiFi/Mobile Data/GPS/etc).
Not a fantastic tablet, but for $50 (costs $15 to downgrade to Free plan now), what can you expect? I do enjoy the larger 8" screen for practicing my piano playing using the Synthesia app. The big screen is far more usable for Internet browsing than any dinky smart phone.
