I bought one of these 12V twenty dollar tire pumps and it just smoked when I tried to pump up my car tire. I have doubts if any of these 12V compressors and handle a car tire.
^ A 12V compressor can handle a car tire, but first, you need to look for one a bit higher priced that operates near the max a car lighter outlet can handle (which varies by vehicle but a common limit is 15A on the conservative side).
Those can be found for about $30 to $50, maybe less if it's a great sale price.
Beyond that, something that inflates a car /etc tire more than a small size, at a rate that doesn't leave you annoyed will draw more than 15A and requires a connection to the battery instead of through the lighter outlet.
That type generally runs $50 on sale and goes up from there. This was a good deal at $7 for what it was capable of, but don't expect lacking performance. If a $7 pump did fine without issues then nobody would pay $50 or more.

Thank you!
