I got a similar style Columbia recently and was skeptical of the waterproof claim for the price. However after a rainstorm while walking around NYC recently, I can attest the water truly just beads right up with no penetration through the jacket. These things are great!

Not a bad deal, but for waterproof jackets, I would go with Arc'teryx Beta. If forced to select a Columbia jacket, the Watertight II
