For FiOS, "the sticks" include even most urban areas.
Personally, I think the biggest ISP game-changer will be when SpaceX gets those 4000+ low-earth-orbit satellites up there and is able to provide high speed internet coverage anywhere. If the pricing is reasonable, THAT should send all the whiny, anti-competitive cable/copper ISPs scrambling to up their game! And LEO satellites, since they are only a couple hundred miles away, will also have latencies that are second to none. Bring on the future!! :D
