No... similiar spec'd bikes do not go for that much. It has the absolute lowest spec shimano groupset. My first road bike had those derailleurs. I paid $150 for it. I switched out of that to a $1000 bike pretty quickly. I could never get it to shift smoothly and it would hop between gears at the low/high end. I had my tuner friend check it, said it's the nature of the game with the entry parts. That being said, there's no way I'd trust that bike on trails. It looks super sketchy, and you are not getting decent parts. The rims look plastic. It has a kickstand??? You are better off going to bikesdirect or nashbar if you want a bargain bike.

I've been looking for an opinion on Chinese bikes - not much info out there. Does anyone have an opinion on these cheap Chinese bikes (not necessarily the collapsible bikes) for lite-duty riding, like doing basic trails with young kids? I've only shopped around a bit but it seems that for the price (generally speaking) you're getting more than you would for an American branded bike - maybe more isn't better if the parts are junk?

I bought a $150 24" Schwinn for my daughter and I'm really surprised by how nice it is, but of course it was built in China as well.

Most of the frames are Chinese-made regardless of manufacturer (at least at the low end) so look at the components. However, get a more traditional frame design than this. This looks like a death trap.

The point of it is that it's a folding bike. I wouldn't take a folding bike on any trails that need a quality MTB. As far as shifting goes, odds are it was either misadjusted, needed lubed, or had been damaged from an impact. Even the
walmart
generic components shift reasonably well if none of the above is wrong.

The rims are magnesium alloy.

$240 gets you a ton better deal on CL, or watching for a good sale at a large sporting goods chain. Heck, if you're going to spend $250ish, go to your local bike shop and get something professionally tuned. I picked up a GT Aggressor Sport last year for $280, which is miles ahead of this bike. My $0.02.

^ Umm, FOLDING bike. Comparisons to non-folding are meaningless. It's obviously not meant for aggressive off-road use as cast wheels can't handle that, you'd want plastic or wire spokes that don't crack on hard impacts.
