You would more likely need the microusb TO Type C converter so you can use your more common older cords to charge your new S8 etc. Less common to take your new S8 type C cord and have to use it to charge a microusb device.

You can't use this for most chargers for S8. I've been able to use S3 and some other random chargers for my S5.
