Plus how long do you step away from the grill? A simple timer might be of more use if you are prone to long excursions while cooking.
You don't BBQ by time you BBQ by temperature. Cooking the same cut could literally vary by hours. Any pitmaster uses a leave in thermometer so they don't have to open the pit to take the temperature. That said there are better thermometers out there.
