You have to protect it from the rain. I also had a similar learning curve. Since this doesn't trap heat, you need to cook thinner foods. So if you have a big thick chicken breast, you can't lay it down and expect the center to get to the appropriate temp. You need to pound it flat or butterfly it and cook it that way. But once you get a few good recipes, this thing is awesome.
