Good grief even a middling middle child chipset board from a bottom barrel manufacture is considered deal worthy at over $100! This is at best a $65 motherboard...
^ So they're still bad? I remember them being junk in the Pentium 3 and earlier era but the few I had in the P4 and early Core era seemed okay, just not a lot of overclocking headroom, partially due to being pickier about memory, and partially due to the budgetized CPU VRM circuit.
Haven't tried one since then, when the other major brands were on sale there was too little if any price difference and overall I felt Foxconn's budget boards were better if I didn't care about overclocking and had to buy at a moment's notice instead of waiting for a sale.
Well like you I can't say I've seen anything that instills confidence. It has been... with $10 adder you can find other better brands, and I'm not one to skimp on the Mobo. While I might try a Biostar if that's what I could find, I wouldn't do it paying what seems like a high price only because they have stock. I'm not building just for the sake of building.
Bought a Biostar board a couple years ago as part of a bundle not expecting to even open the box but because of a unforeseen circumstance ended up using it and I have to say it wasn't that bad of a board, no frills or anything so not much in the way of tweaking but was and is still pretty stable, don't think I would pay $100+ for a biostar maybe $30 or $40 less, for that price I would stick with MSI.
