i used to have apple tv but now i use a roku that is a bit cheaper. pretty happy with it so far.
you should get apple tv if you bought a lot of content already through itunes

The Roku Ultra is worth a look for 4K viewing at $99. I like that the remote control has a headphone jack.

I don't see the value. Aside from accessing the Apple ecosystem, I don't know why you wouldn't by an Android device that is a fraction of the price with the same or better specs.

If you're up for a challenge, I really liked the Raspberry Pi DIY kits. All in you can build on for under $50. So much great free firmware out there to chose from, it's hard to say no.
