They were never that good. Even with a fully verified image, chances of a successful bare metal full restore were never better than 50-50. The free version of Macrium Reflect, on the other hand, has so far proven 100% reliable with an image that was verified after backup.
^ Have to disagree, I've done quite a few restores successfully with maybe > 90% success rate. The main problem I had with older versions (prior to 2010 or 2011?) was that combined with the capabilities of the motherboard bios, it might not be able to boot to a large enough USB flash drive set up as the True Image restore boot device, especially if the backup was made with files larger than 4GB but the motherboard bios wanted FAT32 filesystem.

^ Yeah, I still use it regularly but stay about 7 years behind the curve. As with windows, each successive version brings less and less I need.
